Edit

Change, upscale, cut out and finish your images, one at a time or many at once.

Overview

Use Edit to finish an image: change part of it, upscale it, cut it out or add effects. Every edit makes a new version next to the original, so you can try a bigger change without losing the image you started with.

Choose Edit in the sidebar and pick an image from your library, or open any image's menu and choose Edit.

You can also change an image without the editor. On Create, attach the image as a reference and write the change, then what must stay. Nano Banana 2 recolored the Halvard wrapper this way, once in cloudberry orange and once in pine green, and left the contour lines, the lettering and the light alone. These come back as new images in the feed, not as versions in the editor.

The editor

The editor holds one image and all its versions, in a strip along the bottom. Select a version to see it, and the next tool you run starts from that version. To compare a version with the one it came from, choose Single, Split or Side by side under the canvas.

The run button shows the price first: Free, or a number of credits. Everyone in the workspace sees your edits and can keep working on them.

Ideogram Edit

Use it to change one thing and keep everything else. Describe the change, such as "make the coat yellow", and Ideogram 4.5 repaints only that. Add up to 4 reference images to show what you want added.

Quality sets the price per image: 2 credits at Very low, 7 at Low, 14 at Medium and 47 at High. Images over about 2.4 megapixels come back a little smaller.

Upscale

Makes an image bigger, with five models to choose from. Most offer 2x or 4x.

ModelWhat it doesCredits
CreativeInvents detail as it enlarges20
PrecisionKeeps the detail that is already there15
Real-ESRGANFast, with optional face enhancement3
Recraft CrispClean edges on flat art and type5
CrystalKeeps detail, slower5

Use Precision when the image is already right and only needs to be bigger. Use Recraft Crisp on logos, icons and lettering.

Remove background

Cuts the subject out onto a transparent background. The editor runs BiRefNet by default, at 2 credits; it holds up on more than one subject. Magnific, at 5 credits, gives tighter edges on a single subject.

Remove background in an image's menu runs Magnific, at 5 credits.

Effects

Eighteen effects in four groups, Color, Texture, Artistic and Distortion, from Film Grain to Risograph and Halftone CMYK. They run in your browser and cost nothing. Choose Save version to keep the result. Effects work on one image at a time.

Slice

Cuts a sheet of icons or sprites into separate files. Slice by Shapes or by Grid, up to 256 slices from one sheet. Slicing is free. On a busy background, Slice offers to remove the background first, for 2 credits.

Stickers and print sheets

Sticker turns an image into a die-cut sticker. Pick a Finish: Classic, Holographic, Glitter, Puffy or Clear. Stickers are free. An image that still has its background gets it removed first, at 2 credits.

The landmark stickers in Geolingo, a geography game we built, were made this way. Nano Banana 2 drew each icon, like this Big Ben; Remove background cut it out, and Sticker added the die-cut white border.

Sticker

From a stack of stickers, Print sheet lays out up to 64 of them on a Letter or A4 PDF with a cut line for your printer.

Edit many images at once

In the library, point at a date and choose Select all, or Shift-click the images you want. Then choose Edit in the bar at the bottom. You can also open a stack and choose Edit.

Pick Ideogram Edit, Upscale, Remove background or Sticker. The window shows the total before you start, and the results land in your library as one stack. One run takes up to 256 images, or 40 with a tool that costs credits.

Agent can run the same edits from a chat. Ask it to "remove the backgrounds from all of these, then make them stickers", and it does both in one go.
