Thick impasto oil painting: paint laid on in heavy, raised strokes and palette-knife slabs whose ridged edges catch the light and cast small shadows. Each stroke follows the form, and colors are only partly mixed, so streaks of a second color show inside a stroke. Saturated warm yellows and oranges against cool blues, lilacs and teals, in close, frame-filling crops.
