Fine-line engraving: black ink only, with every tone built from parallel lines, cross-hatching and stipple that follow the form. Dense line work for shadows, sparse lines and bare paper for highlights, and white lines cut into solid black in darker pieces. Crisp, precise strokes on white paper, either vignetted or set inside a black rectangle.
