# Ideogram

Use Ideogram when the words on the image have to be right: posters, labels, wordmarks and ads.

![A hot pink club-night poster where the tall black word HEAVY sags into glossy pools of melted wax at the bottom, under a small line reading Saturdays at Armazém 4](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-f.webp)

*Prompt: "A poster for a club night called "HEAVY". The word is so heavy it has sagged and pooled at the bottom of the sheet like melted glossy black wax, the top of the letters still crisp. Hot pink background. Small text at the top: "Saturdays at Armazém 4"." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

## Best for

Ideogram 4.5 is a design model. It spells the words you quote, sets each line in the size and style you describe, and puts it where you ask. Reach for it when the type carries the idea, like the club-night poster above, where the word itself sags and melts. It also handles the plainer jobs: packaging, wordmarks, flyers, and ads that need room for a headline.

**Wordmark**

![LANTERN KEEP in chunky gold pixel letters with a dark violet outline and a small pixel lantern hanging from the K, on white](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-s1.webp)

*Prompt: "A wordmark logo for Lantern Keep, a pixel-art castle game: the words "LANTERN KEEP" in chunky stepped pixel letters, lantern gold with a dark violet outline, a small pixel lantern hanging from the K, on plain white. No other text." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

**Packaging label**

![The Halvard Havsalt & Rug wrapper at High quality, finer contour lines in the corners, HALVARD up the left edge, the flavour, Sea salt and rye, 70% dark, and Bergen, 80 g in the centre](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-q-high.webp)

*Prompt: "The front of a Halvard chocolate bar wrapper, flat, seen straight on: cobalt paper printed all over with fine white contour lines like a sea chart. "HALVARD" running up the left edge in a tall cream serif. Centre: "Havsalt & Rug". Below it: "Sea salt and rye · 70% dark". Bottom: "Bergen · 80 g". No other text." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

**Ad with room for a headline**

![A Halvard bar in a cobalt contour-line wrapper on deep blue velvet along the bottom of the frame, two squares of chocolate showing, the dark velvet above left empty for a headline](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-s3.webp)

*Prompt: "A Halvard chocolate bar lying flat along the bottom edge of the frame on deep blue velvet, its cobalt wrapper printed with fine white contour lines and "HALVARD" in a tall cream serif, a square of chocolate showing. Hard light from the left. The rest of the frame is empty blue velvet, room for a headline." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

## Write the prompt

**Lead with what it is.** Start with the deliverable before any detail. The poster above opens with "A poster for a club night", then names it. Ideogram says words earlier in the prompt carry more weight. Then go subject, setting, where things sit, light.

**Quote every word, and give each line a place.** Put every word that must appear in double quotes. For each line, say how big it is, what it looks like, and where it sits, in the order someone would read them. The flyer on the right below was written this way:

> Top: "TASTING NIGHT". Middle: six chocolate bars in a row seen from above, each in a different coloured wrapper. Bottom: "Thursday 5 March, 7pm". Very bottom, small: "12 seats". No other text.

Ideogram often spells a long line correctly too. Both flyers below have every word right, including the long run of copy on the left, but the layouts differ. From one long line, Ideogram set the copy in one quiet column and added a stock photo of chocolate. From short lines with a place each, it built the flyer we described.

**One long line**

![A cream flyer with every word of the brief in one centred column under a stock photo of chocolate pieces and coffee beans, the hierarchy picked by the model](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-p2a.webp)

*Prompt: "A flyer for a chocolate tasting with the text "Chocolate tasting night, six bars from three Nordic makers, coffee included, Thursday 5 March 7pm, 12 seats, book at the counter or call 0123 456 789" on a cream background." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

**Short lines, each placed**

![A cream flyer with TASTING NIGHT in big brown capitals, six chocolate bars in different colours in a row, and the date and 12 seats below](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-p2b.webp)

*Prompt: "A flyer for a chocolate tasting. Top: "TASTING NIGHT". Middle: six chocolate bars in a row seen from above, each in a different coloured wrapper. Bottom: "Thursday 5 March, 7pm". Very bottom, small: "12 seats". No other text." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

Keep each quoted line short anyway. For Ideogram 4.0, Ideogram advised five to seven words per quoted line, since accuracy drops on longer ones. The [4.5 text guide](https://runware.ai/docs/models/ideogram-4-5/guides/text-and-design) also says to keep lines short and to set a paragraph of body copy in your own layout. For numbers in small labels, Ideogram's 4.0 advice is to write them as words: "forty-two percent" renders more reliably than "42%".

**Say when only your copy may appear.** In the 4.5 guide's tests, Ideogram added a heading of its own to a pricing table, because pricing sections usually have one. We end prompts with "No other text."

**Describe type by how it looks.** Serif or sans-serif, weight, width, capitals or lowercase, letter spacing: "chunky stepped pixel letters, lantern gold with a dark violet outline" made the Lantern Keep wordmark above. For the gig poster below, the prompt named the lettering's era, its colours, its drop shade and a star behind the A. Ideogram drew the lettering, the colours and the shade as described, and the one line of small print exactly, though it put the star over the A rather than behind it.

![A black gig poster with TIDAL LANES in chunky flared yellow 1970s show-card letters with a red drop shade and a blue outline, a blue eight-point star bursting through the A, and one line of small cream type at the bottom: Live at the Boathouse, 14 September, Doors 9pm](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-poster.webp)

*Prompt: "A gig poster for a surf-rock band. The word "TIDAL" is hand-lettered across the middle in chunky flared 1970s show-card letters, cadmium yellow #FFC21A with a deep tomato red #D8322A drop shade and a thin cobalt #1E4FD8 inline, the letters bulging and leaning forward, and a sharp eight-point cobalt star bursts from behind the A. Under it, smaller and in the same lettering: "LANES". Black field. Bottom edge, one line of small cream condensed sans-serif capitals: "Live at the Boathouse · 14 September · Doors 9pm". Slight ink spread at the letter edges like a screen print. No other text." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

**Describe the empty space.** Ideogram's guide says the model tries to draw every word you write, so say what the empty part looks like instead of listing what to leave out. For an ad you'll add copy to later, say where the product sits and what fills the rest:

> The rest of the frame is empty blue velvet, room for a headline.

That line made the Halvard ad in the row above.

## Edit an image

Attach an image and describe the change. The first image is the one that changes. Up to four more can supply things to take from them, such as a product to place or a color to match. Refer to each by number, say what to take from each, and end with what stays.

**Image 1**

**Edited**

![The same pink poster with the melted word changed to DENSE, the small line, the colour and the layout unchanged](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-s4.webp)

*Prompt: "Change the word to "DENSE". Keep the melted black letters, the pink background, the small text and the layout of image 1 unchanged." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

We asked for "DENSE" in place of "HEAVY". The new word melts the same way, and the pink, the small line and the layout stayed put.

## Settings

**Magic Prompt** rewrites your prompt into a fuller one before Ideogram draws it. You'll find it in the model picker, under Ideogram 4.5's description. **Auto** is the default. **Off** sends your words as written.

Leave it on **Auto** for a rough idea you want Ideogram to fill in. Turn it **Off** once the brief is finished and every element is one you chose. Writing about Ideogram 4.0, Ideogram said Magic Prompt fills sparse scenes with secondary elements you didn't ask for. It left quoted words alone in the 4.5 guide's tests and in ours, and on our poster brief Auto and Off came out nearly the same. With a reference image attached, Magic Prompt doesn't run.

**Quality**, in the image settings next to **Aspect ratio**, has three steps: **Low**, **Medium** (the default) and **High**. All three render at the same size. Use Low to find the layout, not for the final image. On this Halvard wrapper it broke the wordmark into "HALV'ARD". Medium and High spelled every line right, and High drew the finest contour lines. Draft on Low at 7 credits, check the words on Medium, and make the one you keep on High, at 47.

![The Halvard Havsalt & Rug wrapper at Low quality, the wordmark up the left edge broken by a stray mark into HALV'ARD](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-q-low.webp)

*Quality Low*

![The Halvard Havsalt & Rug wrapper at Medium quality, the wordmark large up the left edge and every line spelled right](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-q-medium.webp)

*Quality Medium*

![The Halvard Havsalt & Rug wrapper at High quality, finer contour lines in the corners, HALVARD up the left edge, the flavour, Sea salt and rye, 70% dark, and Bergen, 80 g in the centre](https://batchbanana.com/docs/models/ideogram/i-q-high.webp)

*Quality High*

*Prompt for all 3: "The front of a Halvard chocolate bar wrapper, flat, seen straight on: cobalt paper printed all over with fine white contour lines like a sea chart. "HALVARD" running up the left edge in a tall cream serif. Centre: "Havsalt & Rug". Below it: "Sea salt and rye · 70% dark". Bottom: "Bergen · 80 g". No other text." Model: Ideogram 4.5.*

| --- | ---: | --- |
| Ideogram 4.5 | 14 | Quality: Low 7, High 47 |

## Limits

- Up to 5 reference images.
- Each aspect ratio has one fixed size, about 2K on the long side. 21:9 comes out slightly squarer, at 12:5.
- Small text is less reliable than large text, by Ideogram's own account for 4.0. Check fine print before you use it.
